About the Event
The John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition (“JHJMCC”) is an international competition on the Law of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) organised by the European Law Students’ Association (“ELSA”) with the technical support of the WTO itself. The competition takes on the form of a simulated hearing of the WTO dispute settlement system. The regional round is hosted by ALSA Singapore.
First organised in 2002, the JHJMCC has seen around 80 teams participating from around the world. Teams will send in written submissions for the complainant and respondent of a fictitious case. After the written preliminary round, the teams will present their oral submissions in front of a Panel of WTO and trade law experts at the various regional rounds.
The Regional Rounds of the JHJMCC will take place all over the world. The top 20 teams subsequently qualified for the Final Oral Round, which will take place at the WTO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
Next year in 2019, the Asia-Pacific Rounds will be held in Singapore from 23rd to 27th February 2019. ALSA Singapore is looking to host between 120 to 150 student participants and their coaches from around the region. Various trade law experts will also be invited to be the panelists for the Asia-Pacific Round.
